Today I’m stepping away from the computer, the 3D printers, the cameras, and the projects for a little time outside. I love building things, figuring out how they work, and sharing that process. But sometimes it helps to pause and appreciate the world that makes all of it possible.
Remembering where it all begins
When we spend so much time surrounded by technology, it’s easy to focus on the finished object. The materials behind it came from the earth. The energy that powers our tools has its roots in the natural world. Even our ideas can begin with something we notice outdoors.
That connection is what I’m thinking about while looking at this waterfall. As much as I enjoy creating with technology, I want to remember where it all begins.
The places that have shaped me
I feel fortunate to have grown up around places with history, character, and a connection to the land and water. Give me an old farmhouse on a quiet back road or a weathered fishing village any day. Those places have a feeling that can’t be manufactured.
They remind me why protecting the natural world matters. As makers, engineers, and creators, we put so much effort into building the future. The places that inspire us deserve some of that attention, too.
Take a little break
My invitation is simple: put the phone down for a while, step away from the screen, and go for a walk. Listen to the water, the birds, or the wind through the trees. You don’t have to turn every moment into a project.
I’ll be back to building things soon. Today, I’m taking a moment to appreciate what’s already here. What place makes you want to stop, look around, and do the same?
