How to Strip Paint from Miniatures

Today I'm showing you how to effectively strip paint off miniatures. This process is crucial for both hobbyists and collectors who wish to restore or customize their miniature figures. The tutorial emphasizes the ease and efficiency of this method, applicable to both metal and plastic miniatures.

I bought a variety of miniatures from eBay. Some miniatures displayed impressive paintwork, while others required significant restoration. Among these, a particular miniature, reminiscent of the my childhood, was chosen for demonstration due to its basic paint job.

For this restoration project, a few essential tools were recommended:

  1. Paint Remover: The expert suggested using Testors ELO (Easy Lift Off) paint remover for its effectiveness.
  2. Container: A container is needed to hold the paint remover.
  3. Brush: A nylon brush is preferred, though a toothbrush could be a substitute (with a caution against using a used toothbrush for hygiene reasons).

The process began by immersing the miniature in the paint remover, ensuring it was completely covered, and leaving it to soak for about 20 minutes. After soaking, the paint's adherence was tested using a nylon brush. In some cases, a brass brush might be required for tougher paint residues.

The expert advised running the miniature under water after brushing to remove any loose paint and inspect the results. If residual paint remained, the process could be repeated until the desired outcome was achieved.

This tutorial not only offered practical advice for restoring miniatures but also underscored the importance of preserving these small works of art. Whether for tabletop games, display, or personal collection, the ability to effectively strip and repaint miniatures opens up a world of customization and restoration possibilities.

This comprehensive guide serves as an invaluable resource for enthusiasts looking to breathe new life into their miniature collections.
